Diplomate Laureate - American Academy of Sanitarians
      Robert W. Powitz received his undergraduate education in
agronomy and plant pathology from the State University of New
York and the University of Georgia.  He holds a Masters in
Public Health, with a specialty in institutional practice, and, a
Doctor of Philosophy degree in environmental health, with
epidemiology and environmental microbiology as supporting
minors from the University of Minnesota.

     Bob began his professional career in New Jersey as a state
Sanitarian and municipal Health Officer.  He is currently a
Forensic Sanitarian in private practice, a contract instructor with
NSF International and serves as part-time Health Director for
three small rural towns in rural Connecticut. He is licensed and
registered as a Sanitarian in several states.  For over twelve
years, he was the Director of Environmental Health and Safety
at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan; where he
continues to hold the academic rank of Adjunct Associate
Professor in the College of Engineering.  He also served as
Biological Safety Officer for the United States Department of
Agriculture at the Plum Island Animal Disease Center.

     Bob was co-author of “Tools for Environmental Health”, a
regular column on portable instrumentation that appeared in
the Journal of Environmental Health.  He is currently
Contributing Editor with Food Safety Magazine and writes
regularly appearing columns in American Jails and Corrections
Managers’ Report.  

     Among his honors, Bob Powitz was the recipient of the
Walter F. Snyder, Davis Calvin Wagner and Harry R.H. Nicholas
Awards.  He is a Diplomate Laureate and past Chairman in the
American Academy of Sanitarians.  He holds Diplomate status
with the American Board of Forensic Examiners; where he is
also certified in Homeland Security.
